I'm attempting to create a blog to keep friends and family updated on our crazy life. I'll try to figure out our new digital camera and add pictures of Kylie. Check in every now and then to see what we're up to.
We're getting settled into our new apartment in Houma, Louisiana. Kylie is so happy to have her daddy home at night! They play lions and sing the Beer Run song and watch Batman. I'm trying to find a place for all of our stuff. Then I hope that foot zoning will spread like wildfire. In the meantime I'm enjoying being home and making friends. The second Sunday they had me playing the organ in church. (They'll never do that again!) And I'm excited to figure out how to plug our computer into our new flat screen tv to watch General Conference at home in our 'jammies.
The above picture shows the only pretty spot in this whole town--my apartment. I'm so glad I live here. It's my oasis. Everything is so run down and dirty. The air smells like water that's been sitting for too long. We are not far from the Intercoastal Waterway and its drawbridge. I do like hearing the boat horns as they're coming through. Kylie ate her first crawfish at the church potluck lunch. She didn't spit it out, and she didn't ask for another one. She was really upset with me that I pulled its tail off, peeled off the shell, and took off the head. She said it was going to be very upset with me. Then she ate the tail. One thing I've had to get use to is that everything moves in slow motion. No one's in a hurry to get much done. I suppose that's how they survive the heat. The people are very nice and will say hello like they've known you forever. We're getting it all figured out and having a great time!

Hay Katie:
This is a great Idea. Hope you can figure out the camera. On our TV I had to buy a converter box and plug it into the Video Out on the back of the computer. We're watching for low airfare to New Orleans but with Peru, and Costa Rica coming up it may be a few months before we can afford it. Give Kylie a Big Hugg for me.
GrandPA.
I'm Not Anonomous?? I'm Grandpa
Great to hear you are surviving!!! I'm excited to see more!
Hi Katie:
Oh boy, I am sure you've already heard this but you ain't see nuthin yet, that heat is a killer. I have heard many stories about the drawbridge over the intercostal canal. When Dave first arrived in Houma he was asleep in the back of a car, some people had picked him up hitchhiking. When he woke up he said the car was empty, there was fog everywhere and this bridge. He got out and walked around a bit, crunching on the clamshell road, then saw a light at the very top of the bridge. He climbed the ladder and there were his car buddies and the guy who worked there, Curtis, he ran the drawdbridge, all hanging out partying as 19 years will. Dave stayed in Louisana for the next 10 years, married a Houma girl. Stayed friends with Curtis and the driver of the car too over the past 30 years. You are right, they are very friendly and will adopt you as one of there own.
Take Care
PS - that Kylie sounds just too too cute. Can't wait to see a picture of her.
Once you get settled go see some of the plantation house tours, then you'll feel better about the place. Gotta go to New Orleans and see the Garden District.
