Precious Memories

As I was browsing my friend's blogs, I came across Amanda's blog showing pictures of the fine job her son did of unloading her spice cabinet onto the floor in record time. She despairingly asked if all children did these things and asked for stories and pictures. I smiled as I looked back on some of Kylie's memorable moments and thought I'd post what pictures I have. The first picture is of one-year old Kylie. The caption reads, "One day I was scrapbooking in the other room and realized it was getting too quiet...and found Kylie like this! I couldn't help but laugh. She's so cute! November 2003." Kylie had figured out how to open the container of Quik chocolate milk powder. I'd say she was pretty proud of herself!
There was the occasional moments when she got into someones makeup and painted her face with bright red lipstick, which we all know takes days to remove. The caption reads, "Kylie loves helping Mommy and Laura put on makeup. She says, 'Help eyes!' She loves playing in Laura's box." She was about 18 months in this picture.
This one is my all-time favorite! I was downstairs at my mom's house and could hear Kylie running around and laughing upstairs. The caption reads, "August 2004--It sounded like Kylie was having fun chasing Buddy upstairs and giggling. Then the dog came downstairs covered in flour. I ran upstairs and there was flour everywhere--on the stairs, down the hall, in the living room, and piles in the kitchen." Kylie was almost 2 years old.
When Kylie was 2 she cut her own hair--the one and only time, thank goodness! The caption reads, "When we were living in Virginia, Kylie woke up before me. She climbed up, got my scrapbooking scissors, cut her beautiful long hair, climbed up and put the scissors back, then woke me up with her surprise." It took forever to grow it out and get her hair all one length! Kylie is 3 in this picture. The caption reads, "Kylie decided that she had to have a pet fish, just like her friend Savannah Rowlan. She named it 'Fishy'. The first morning that Fishy was home, Kylie insisted that its tank sit next to her on the table while she ate her breakfast. Running late as usual, I ran upstairs to finish getting ready. When I came back downstairs Kylie was elbow-deep into the fish tank, trying to catch her fish and play with it. There was water and colored rocks everywhere! She was throwing the little rocks at the fish, saying, 'Watch out Fishy!' thinking it hilarious to watch the fish swim away. She was very disappointed to learn that fish are not the sort of pet that you play with. She soon lost interest in it after that."
And of course as she got older she progressed into making "potions" out of whatever substances were handy. This picture was taken just a few months ago, showing a 6 year old Kylie with her missing bottom tooth.
These are all such precious memories for me. She has grown up so fast, and the messes that she made were nothing compared to the joy she has brought to my life. It all makes for great stories to look back on.
